Let us start lighting things up by jumping right into the incredible styles of chandeliers that are available - it's important to choose a style that fits your needs. You want it to look "right". It's got to match the vibe of the room. As chandeliers can be such a potent fixture in any space they're in, it's critical to make sure you get the style right.
The candlestick style has a classic, old-school appearance - they're easily identified by the lights that look just like candles. In fact, they used to have real candles on them back in the day! In our more modern times, however, the real candles have since been replaced with light bulbs - this makes them a much safer option, in comparison.
This type of chandelier is incredibly versatile - they can be used to light up all types of rooms, from the kid's bedroom to your main entertainment area, and they do all of this without stealing the show. Candlestick chandeliers look absolutely beautiful and add a touch of class to any room, and they tend to do it quietly and subtly.
The reason some of them possess this subtle characteristic is because of the way the lighting interacts with your roof and walls. Lighting is direct with a candlestick-styled chandelier, it's not reflecting off of the dazzling surfaces of chrome or crystal for example. Instead, it shines directly onto the roof and walls, and this allows the candlestick design to behave like ordinary light. Except, they look much nicer and as the lights aren't pointed downwards, they create a warm ambient vibe.
If you're after a way to light up a room that's used for things other than just entertainment, such as reading, listening to music, or pretty much anything else - then the candlestick type is going to be the best choice for you.
They're fantastic all-rounder fixtures that will add a touch of rustic-inspired class to any area they're in, and also behave like ordinary light.
We offer two main candlestick types – Maypole, and Almandite.
The Almandite is the more luxurious choice, and although it is just as versatile as any candlestick chandelier should be – it features a gorgeous cream gold finish with leaf dressing. This finish and dressing results in a strikingly magnificent design that will attract a lot more attention than the Maypole.
Chrome Pyramid Drop
Chrome Pyramid Drops are simply put, stunning. The idea behind this design is to brighten up the room in the most spectacular fashion possible.
The way the lighting interacts with the chrome surface on your ceiling will create a wonderfully immersive light and shadow play - these are not for anyone that's looking to add a sweet and subtle mood to their entertainment areas, no. The chrome pyramid drop is bold and brilliant, and absolutely will steal the show and become a talking point for guests.
Despite the superb light-play that is offered by this design, the actual chandelier itself has a modern appearance that isn't too in your face or aggressive - and if it's set up in any position where natural sunlight can reach it, you'll find the chrome surface creates some beautiful and interesting reflections without it even being turned on!
An elegant mirrored backplate is standard with this type, and this will help enhance the glorious lighting that this design can achieve.
If you're after a bold, modern aesthetic that will garner attraction and become a talking point at any events or parties you host - then the chrome pyramid drop is going to be the right choice for you – feel free to take a look at our Hanna 8 Light chrome pyramid drop.
When you think of a chandelier - what you're imagining in your mind is most likely a traditional design. Luxurious, elegant and most importantly - obvious - this fixture is intended to be the star of the show.
An excellent choice for overseeing a romantic dance, the traditional type will hang confidently and powerfully. It's not bound to just ballrooms and function halls, however - it'll feel right at home in any main entertainment areas, including lounge, dining and living rooms.
The lighting produced from this style is phenomenal - with crystal strings and beads and chrome outfitting - the end result is nothing short of excellence. Light and shadow play is more layered than the chrome pyramid drop, this time, as it feels like there is some serious depth to the interactions between light and dark here. It feels more like art than lighting.
Another fantastic thing about this type of chandelier is the way it will interact with other things in the room - there is just something special about the lighting on offer. Your furniture will take on a wonderful glow. Any wood surfaces the lighting hits will radiate with a beautiful ambience. If you happen to have a glass table in the same room, you'll be impressed with the capabilities this chandelier possesses.
If what you're after is a way to brighten up the room in the most spectacular way possible, with an exquisite, timeless design - then the traditional chandelier is going to be what you're after.

How To Get The Right Size
Making sure you get the right-sized chandelier is particularly important, and in some cases, you might find the size of your room will strongly inform the choices you've actually got available when it comes time to make a decision.
A quick way to get ensure you get the diameter correct is to measure the width and length of the room in feet, add those numbers together and use that number - but as inches.
For example, if you have a room that is 20' x 15' - adding these numbers together gives you 35' - make that 35" instead and now your ideal diameter.
This rule is mostly concerning hanging chandeliers, like the traditional one, but it's still useful information that will help you get a feel for the right types of chandeliers for the room you're looking to improve anyway,
Measure the height of the room - from floor to ceiling - in feet. Then, times the number by 2.5 and use that as inches - this will give you a good approximation of the height you'll want for your prized ceiling fixture.
For example, if you have a ceiling that is 12 feet high - 12 x 2.5 = 30 - so the ideal height is 30".
This is different to the height of the chandelier itself - the hanging height relates to how high the chandelier hangs from the ceiling.
There are a couple of key ideas here - the first is for when the chandelier is to hang above the floor, without anything underneath it (such as a table or a kitchen island etc) - you want to make sure there's a distance of 7.5 feet between the floor and the bottom of the chandelier.
For instances where the chandelier is to hang over a table, kitchen island or any other object - you will need to make sure you've got a distance of 33 or so inches between the bottom of the chandelier, and the object that it's placed over.
So now, you've learnt how to choose the right chandelier to entertain with - you've learnt about a variety of styles to suit all occasions (and spaces) and you've learnt all about how to make sure you get one with the right diameter, height and hanging height.
So, what's the next step?
You should have a think about the area you plan on installing a wonderful chandelier in and try to figure out which one is going to be the best fit.
Think about things such as… is it for a small dining area? Is it for a larger functions area? Is it in a room that is also used for relaxing in? Is there any furniture or objects that need to be considered when determining the right choice? Do you want the chandelier to be a focus point of the room? Or should it be more of a background feature?
Thinking about these types of things will help you narrow down your choice – you’ll get a feel for what’s going to work the best for you. If you’ve got a large amount of space to work with, and want the chandelier to be the star attraction, then you can consider the bolder, more striking designs.
If you’re working with a smaller space, and are aiming for a calmer, more ambient vibe – then the more subtle styles are going to be a fantastic fit for your needs.
